Preserving Handmade Heritage: Tanjong Rhu Pau Launches New Kiosks and Delivery Across Singapore

Bite into time-honoured recipes handcrafted daily as Tanjong Rhu Pau brings its steamed paus to two new locations with kiosks at Food Republic at Mandai and Food Junction at Bishan Junction 8.

Sparking a modern touch with a new takeaway packaging and new logo, the 36-year-old heritage brand is here to stay, with four other outlets at Guillemard Rd, Balestier Rd, Tampines Mall and Great World.

The Making of Tanjong Rhu Pau’s 30-year-old Secret Recipe

Founded in 1988 by Yap Peng Wah, Tanjong Rhu Pau has been dedicated to the art of pau-making, handcrafting each piece with care, precision, and respect for tradition. Its iconic Mini Char Siew Pau is the first of its kind in Singapore.

Through the years, Tanjong Rhu Pau makes soft buns filled with tender, charcoal-grilled pork and other carefully prepared fillings, guided by family recipes and time-honoured techniques.

From a humble coffee shop stall to legendary local name, currently run by the second generation, Tanjong Rhu Pau uses a “mother dough” maintained for over 30 years, giving the pau a lighter and more fluffy texture.

The Next Generation Upholding Tradition

Today, the Tanjong Rhu Pau siblings, Yap Wei Jie and Yap Hsiao Cheng, want to introduce the heritage food brand to a new generation of fans.

Wei Jie plays a hands-on role, working closely with the pau-making masters to ensure that every pau continues to meet the brand’s exacting standards. His dedication to the craft was tested during a serious pau-making accident that nearly cost him his arm. A tattoo bearing the date of the accident marks his resilience and long-term commitment to the family trade.

The new generation behind Tanjong Rhu Pau is dedicated to keeping this heritage taste alive. Tanjong Rhu Pau is available fresh in-store or as chilled takeaway, keeping for up to three days in the chiller or up to ten days in the freezer. With a simple steam, the handcrafted quality is preserved, allowing anyone to savour the same artisanal paus that have been delighting Singaporeans for over 30 years.
