Founded in 1826, the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club (RSYC) marked its 200th anniversary with a Bicentennial Charity Gala Dinner on Saturday, 7 February 2026. The evening of celebration was held at the club’s Nautica Ballroom, bringing together members, guests and community leaders in a meaningful tribute to heritage, service and giving back.
An Evening of Heritage and Reflection
Graced by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the milestone event reflected RSYC’s deep roots in Singapore’s maritime story and its evolution into a proudly multicultural institution. Highlights of the evening included the unveiling of the RSYC Bicentennial Plaque, a ceremonial cake-cutting and a heritage exhibition that traced the club’s long and distinguished history—reminding families of the importance of preserving history and shared values.
Giving Back to the Community
The heart of the night lay in its purpose. A charity auction featuring rare collectables, including a one-of-a-kind RSYC Bicentennial Commemorative Pure Gold Coin, limited-edition Bicentennial Pure Silver Coins, and a rare 60-year-old Martell Cognac—one of only 12 in the world—presented in a Baccarat crystal decanter.
Through the gala dinner and auction, RSYC raised an impressive S$326,692 in support of the President’s Challenge—a national movement launched in 2000 by RSYC’s former Patron, the late President S R Nathan, dedicated to helping communities in need.
Looking Ahead
More than a gala, the event marked the start of RSYC’s year-long bicentennial celebrations, filled with sporting and social activities that encourage connection across ages. As RSYC charts its next chapter, its 200-year legacy stands as a reminder that tradition, community and compassion remain timeless values worth passing on.
