“Let’s Talk!” PW Video Feature (November Edition)-Breast Cancer Awareness

Your favourite parenting and lifestyle e-magazine Parents World now brings you interesting and inspiring conversations with parents, entrepreneurs and experts  in a new video series called “Let’s Talk”!

In our latest episode of “Let’s Talk” aired in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month; Parents World Publisher Jasmine Goh spoke to Dr. Lim Siew Kuan, Senior Consultant & Breast Surgeon at Solis Breast Care & Surgery Centre.

Prior to joining Solis, Dr. Lim was practicing at Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre, Singapore. Dr. Lim is one of the few breast surgeons in Singapore who is trained in Breast Oncoplastic Surgery, which combines breast cancer tumour removal and plastic surgery techniques to maintain the aesthetic outcome of the breast. Dr. Lim manages both benign and malignant breast conditions.

According to National Cancer Centre Singapore, breast cancer constitutes 29.7% of all cancer cases in women in Singapore. Last month the world observed Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to keep the conversation going, we spoke to Dr. Lim Siew Kuan, a Senior Consultant & Breast Surgeon at Solis Breast Care & Surgery Centre, to share her expertise with us on the subject.

With the help of our informative talk on the subject, Parents World hopes to encourage our women readers to form a regular routine of breast self-examination and to go for routine screening as per the national guidelines.

This is very important as early detection is the key to effective treatment of breast cancer and enhances a woman’s chance at surviving the cancer and leading a healthy life thereafter.

Here is a pictorial guide from Solis Breast Care & Surgery Centre for breast self-examination and an overview of the screening guidelines for easy reference.
