Parent, if you are dealing with your baby’s teething rash now, you are not alone. Teething rashes commonly happen during a baby’s first year of life, especially when your baby is teething and drools more than usual. To ease your worries, we are here to share with you some useful tips to get rid of teething rashes.
What causes teething rash?
Teething rash typically presents as flat or slightly raised patches with small red bumps, appearing around the mouth and cheeks, and it can also appear on the neck or chest. When babies are teething, they tend to produce more saliva than usual. When the saliva dries on their skin, it can irritate the skin and cause a teething rash.
Following are four simple yet effective tips to get rid of a teething rash:
- Wipe it off
Keeping your baby’s skin clean and dry is the key to treat teething rashes. After feeding, gently clean by dabbing your baby’s mouth and cheek areas with a wet cloth or tissue paper. Remember to dab dry your baby’s skin with tissue paper after wiping. Avoid rubbing while cleaning as it can irritate the skin.
- Wear a bib
Put on a soft and absorbent bib to wipe off the saliva. Choose a bib made of 100% cotton or muslin to absorb the drool well. It is important to change it frequently.
- Use a gentle baby wash free of synthetic fragrance
Bathe your baby with a mild and natural body wash followed by a moisturizer. Avoid a harsh body wash that contains synthetic fragrance which can further irritate the rash.
- Apply cream
Apply cream to create a protective barrier on the irritated areas from getting in contact with drool. While there are many baby creams available in the market, not all are created equally. Choose a cream that contains goodness from natural ingredients to speed up the healing of the skin.
