Power 98FM Radio DJ, Darren Wee is popular as the host of the weekend morning drive time show ‘Sunday Mornings with Darren Wee’ from 6am to 9am.
But Darren wears many hats- besides being a Radio show host, he is also an F&B entrepreneur – owning and operating various cafes, bars, and restaurants over the past 11 years. His latest venture is the “Good Chai People” – Singapore’s 1st specialty cafe for sticky chai (tea), in the Katong area.
Recently, Darren became a first – time Dad, adding another valuable learning experience. Darren and his wife, Chenise Koh, also an entrepreneur, welcomed their baby daughter, Leah Rose Wee, on 1st Feb, 2023.
“We both knew that we wanted a baby to complete our family so we are really happy to have Leah in our lives, and count it a blessing to be able to parent such a beautiful girl.” – Darren on Leah’s birth.
Darren is a dedicated father who began preparing for his baby’s arrival months in advance. He researched extensively on the various essentials and necessities that his baby daughter will be needing. Darren actively participated in preparing the house for the newborn with his wife – right from renovating the spare room of their apartment to purchasing baby essentials – like a baby cot, diaper-changing station, stroller, and car seat.
Not just that, first-time Dad, DJ Darren took it upon himself to read up more about good parenting practices and started implementing them at home – in order to support his wife better.
“In terms of preparing for parenthood, we did buy some books and read up online about different parenting techniques and styles, and even joined Facebook pages and online forums to learn from the experience of other parents. But at the end of the day, we also realised that every child is unique. And depending on what sort of culture we ourselves are brought up in, the parenting techniques and expectations will undoubtedly be different too. So, while we read extensively and listen to advice from others, we also take it with a pinch of salt knowing that we’ll still have to make modifications along the way as Leah grows up.” – Darren on the parenting technique his wife and he adopt.
Darren’s extensive research prompted him to start a parenting programme segment on his show on Power 98FM. He discussed baby products, parenting tips, and simple DIY methods to ‘baby-proof’ the house. The show elicited a thunderous response from the listeners as it is interactive wherein listeners are encouraged to share their parenting experiences.
After his baby’s birth, Darren took paternity leave to help his wife during her confinement period and also to bond with his baby girl.
