While enrichment classes have moved to online mode and safe distancing measures in Phase 2 (heightened alert) restrict movement and social meetings; it is still important to engage in physical activity and exercise to keep fit and healthy!
Regular running is purported to improve stamina, confidence and attention span while reducing stress for both children and adults. For children importantly, running is an introduction to a lifelong love for fitness!

In keeping with the situation, Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon has created their very own Virtual Club platform, where runners can log runs, compete and win badges. This June holiday, the event organiser of the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) is holding a Kids Virtual Race (VR) on their Virtual Club platform as well.
The event will be organised from 31 May to 30 June and will allow registered child to take part in four races – each with varying distances – and compete with other children from Singapore and the rest of the world. As it is a virtual event, participants can run safely anytime (within the race period) and anywhere, and their results will be recorded on the Virtual Club platform. The Kids VR event can also be a great family bonding activity as parents can run alongside their child and encourage them to complete the distances.
Here’s how to participate:
- Parents must help their child set up a SCSM Virtual Club account via this link. Registration is FREE!
- Get outside (adhering to the necessary social distancing measures, of course!) or hop on a treadmill.
- Make sure their SCSM Virtual Club account is connected to a participating running app (e.g. Nike+, Garmin, Fitbit, MapMyWalk)
- Complete all four races within the stipulated dates below (walk or light jog works too).
Dates | Races |
31 May to 13 June | 1.5KM Race 3KM Race |
14 June to 30 June | 2KM Race 3.5KM Race |
Upon finishing each race, participants will earn a digital badge and parents can share their child’s achievement on social media with the hashtag #SCSMVC.
