Looking for an anti-ageing treatment that is non-invasive, painless, without downtime and vouched by celebs?
Ultherapy, the amazing modern phenomenon in anti-ageing procedures in the field of medical aesthetics is here for you! Unlike injectables and surgical facelifts, Ultherapy is non-invasive and unlike Thermage – its predecessor in anti-ageing procedures – Ultherapy has zero visible downtime and is almost painless. International Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Aniston swear by the efficacy of Ultherapy.
In Singapore, Ultherapy is offered in aesthetic clinics, a leading one is Privé Clinic located in Orchard, where the procedure is offered under the expert guidance of Dr. Karen Soh and Dr. Shirley Kwee.
Before you take the plunge, here’s all you need to know about Ultherapy:
What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy or Ulthera is a non-invasive, non-surgical FDA approved treatment for lifting the skin on the neck, chin and brow, and improving lines and wrinkles on the décolletage. Ulthera uses microfocused ultrasound to lift and tighten loose skin over time to counter the effects of ageing.
How Does It Work?
Ultherapy Uses Body’s Own Response System
Ultherapy uses your body’s own regenerative response to gently and gradually lift the skin on the neck, under the chin and on the eyebrows, as well as smooth out lines and wrinkles on the décolletage. The focused ultrasound energy has unique properties that allow it to bypass the surface of the skin non-surgically, to treat depths of up to 4.5mm under the skin. The use of ultrasound imaging enables doctors to see and then treat the deepest support layers of the skin but without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin, thus ensuring that the energy is delivered to areas where it is most needed.
Ultherapy Gives a boost to Collagen Production
Collagen is a natural protein that gives skin its youthfulness by keeping it firm and toned. As we age, collagen breaks down, and the result is a loss of skin strength and elasticity. Ulthera uses microfocused ultrasound energy to generate a thermal effect under the skin, that boosts the process to produce fresh, new collagen. This results in a clinically significant lift of tissue over time as new collagen works to lift and tighten the skin. The treatment evens out skin resulting in lesser skin wrinkles.
Since collagen production takes time, it would typically take 6 months for the Ultherapy to show results.
Is Ultherapy Painful?
No, Ultherapy is a fairly comfortable procedure. You may feel a warm prickly sensation beneath the skin when the ultrasound energy is being delivered into the targeted tissue, indicating that the collagen building process has been initiated. However, the sensation lasts only for the period of the procedure. One session typically takes about 90 minutes and the person can return to her normal routine immediately after.
How Safe Is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy has been used safely in over 1 million treatments worldwide. Ultherapy has also received the European CE mark for non-invasive dermatological sculpting and lifting of the upper face, lower face, neck and décolletage.
After the session, some patients may experience slight redness that typically resolves within a few hours. Some patients may also have slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to the touch, but these are mild and temporary in nature.
What is the Efficacy of the Ultherapy Treatment?
Most patients require only one treatment for skin to show visible improvement, but it depends on the degree of skin laxity, as well as the individual’s biological response to ultrasound energy and collagen-building process. Results after a single session can last up to a year and may need touch-up sessions beyond that.
Is Ultherapy for Me?
Since Ultherapy is non-surgical and non-invasive, it cannot replicate the effects of a surgical face lift, but it can give your skin a youthful, smooth, wrinkle-free look. It works ideally for those women who have mild to medium skin laxity (loss of elasticity in skin). So if you feel queasy about going under the knife for cosmetic purposes and do not want aesthetic treatments to disrupt your active life- Ultherapy is for you! If you are in your 30s or older and want to pre-empt the onset of loose, wrinkly skin or have just started seeing signs of saggy skin- Ultherapy is definitely for you!
“Ultherapy represents a whole new category within aesthetic medicine. It is an ideal procedure for those looking for natural yet noticeable results with no downtime.”- says Dr Karen Soh, Founder and Medical Director of Privé Clinic and Singapore’s leading doctor and trainer specialising in the field of medical aesthetics.
