Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM)

January is the month of art at the Civic District (where all the museums are located). Whether you have very little ones or older ones in secondary school studying about the history of our forefathers, there is something for everyone. Here is a quick highlight of what to see and do at the Asian Civilisation Museum (ACM).

Light to Night Festival @ ACM – Traces & Echoes 

When: 25 & 26 January 2019, 7pm to 12 midnight | 1 & 2 February 2019, 7pm to 12 midnight
Where: Asian Civilisations Museum and Empress Lawn

Immerse yourself in the history of the Civic District and dive into a weekend full of fascinating and engaging interactions with artworks designed for all ages. ACM is adding to the illumination with light installations, nostalgic games, a tunnel of dreams and mesmerizing performances over two weekends. Walk into a giant time capsule by OH! Other Half, revisit old shipwrecks or nostalgic games with Mash Up Collective and Sebastian Chun, and enter a tunnel of dreams by students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.

Raffles in Southeast Asia: Revisiting the Scholar and Statesman

When: 1 February 2019 – 28 April 2019
Where: Asian Civilisations Museum
Fees: Admission fees applicable

A must-visit for students and families. This is a special exhibition deciphering who Raffles is and what he was doing so far away from home. Raffles in Southeast Asia: Revisiting the Scholar and Statesman marks Singapore’s bicentennial anniversary. This exhibition is co-curated with the British Museum,
ACM’s offering for the Singapore Bicentennial, and there are related activities for the little ones too, such as a dramatic and literary adventure with Saturdays@ACM: To Sir (Stamford Raffles) with Love where you will also get to enjoy discounted entry to the special exhibition to present a multi-layered picture of Raffles as a scholarly expert on the region, a progressive reformer, a committed imperialist, and even a plagiariser.

Join us at the ACM and catch a dramatic performance, or go on one of our special exhibition tours. Take a photo at our instaworthy wonderland of an interpretive space, or read a book at the pop-up library. Don’t forget to tag #acmsg on your day out! 

Straits Family Sunday: Live Long and Prosper

When:Sunday, 3 February 2018, 1pm to 5pm
Where: Peranakan Museum
Fees: Free admission to programmes and Amek Gambar: Peranakans and Photography

Usher in the Chinese Year of the Pig with cooking demonstrations of traditional Peranakan dishes to give you a taste of the upcoming celebrations. Join in character tours in the galleries to prep for the tok panjang, a long table set for family reunions, and design your own plate inspired by the porcelain on display. Dress up to take a photo with your family in the photo corner, and don’t forget to wish your elders “panjang panjang umor” (live long and prosper)!
