It is the age of the smart generation! Children these days are exposed to many online technologies such as the smartphone, iPad, smart TV, Netflix, and Google. They are relatively fast and tech-savvy nowadays. This calls for risky opportunities for children to consume unwanted media such as pornography, news or images of sex activities, violence and abuse.
Thankfully, with certain parental controls available on smart devices now, your child’s viewing options can be generally restricted.
Here are some ways for you to use parental controls on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Take advantage of the restrictions section, also known as parental controls. It helps you to block or limit specific apps and features on all your devices.
First and foremost, you can change your restrictions passcode by following a few simple steps. Under the settings portion, you will be able to enter your Restrictions passcode. You will have the ability to switch from disable to enable restrictions if you want to enter a new passcode. Keep in mind that when you have Restrictions turned on, you will be unable to see certain apps, features or services.
There are many types of content you can control using this function. Examples are music, podcasts, movies, news, TV shows, books, applications, Siri, websites and password settings. Today, the main concern parents need to consider greatly for smartphone use is the proliferation of explicit websites, which can be unpredictable unless scrutinised meticulously. Based on recent findings and statistics last year, Singapore has accounted for a number of web pages, which contains images of child sexual abuse. Many experts have diagnosed the situation seeing it on the rise and something that needs to be closely monitored. Such web pages almost doubled in the first 10 months of this year, to 412. The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), a Britain-based charity has found over 57, 000 URLs last year to have child sexual abuse imagery, have links to it or to advertise it.
For an Android, you can set up a kid’s account by creating a restricted user profile. You then have to set up a password for the account, name the profile and select apps, which you want to enable the profile. Accordingly, you can now choose the apps that the profile user will have access to.
Alternatively, there are many parental control apps available on the Google Play Store such as Mobile Fence Parental Control, Kids Place, Screen Time and many more.
