As the school holidays are approaching, parents may find it difficult to come up with fresh ideas on where to bring their kids to for the vacation especially since the September holidays are short. If you are thinking of a family staycation, look no further as we take you on a review to the most interesting places right in our neighbouring Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Getting to KL
Kuala Lumpur is the capital and city centre of Malaysia, and it’s 1 hour away from Singapore by plane. Other cheaper alternatives to reach KL include trains and buses, which take around 5-7 hours. Some of these luxury coaches and trains are very comfortable and smooth which makes the journey bearable and even pleasant because one can enjoy the scenery during the trip and take breaks at rest stops.
Accommodation- Oasia Suites KLKL
If you are looking for a family-friendly accommodation in KL, the new Oasia Suites KL, is the place for you and your family. Part of the Far East Hospitality, Oasia Suites KL is a modern hotel with serviced apartment facilities located in the Kuala Lumpur Golden Triangle. The hotel is 15 minutes away from the Bukit Nanas Monorail Station and 20 minutes away from KL Sentral by car.
Rooms and Facilities
The suites and rooms provided by Oasia include the Two-bedroom Premier Suite, Two-bedroom Junior Suite, One-bedroom Premier Suite, One-Bedroom Premier Room and the Deluxe Room. For a comfortable stay with your family, we recommend the Two-bedroom Premier Suite and Two-bedroom Junior Suite that allow a family of 4 enough space and comfort to feel at home.
The suites are fully equipped with serviced residence style facilities such as a kitchenette with crockery and utensils for families to do their cooking conveniently, washing machine, dryer, living area and high speed Wi-Fi connectivity.
The hotel has a rooftop swimming pool that oversees the spectacular city of KL. You can take your kids up to the pool or Jacuzzi for a dip or take a walk at the rooftop garden to unwind and admire the city view.
For health-conscious families who can’t stop exercising, the hotel has a 24-hour gym that offers a city view and the view of the Kuala Lumpur Tower.
Menara KL Tower
Located near the hotel is the Menara KL Tower, a famous tourist spot that is known for the observation deck and Sky Box. The Menara Tower is the 7th tallest tower in the world and it is built atop a hill that allows it to offer a view that is from a higher ground than the Twin Towers.
Sky Box
At the Sky Deck of the Menara KL Tower, there is an observation deck and a Sky Box that is built 3000 meters above ground that allows visitors to get a 360-degree view of KL city in a transparent box. For families with older children, the Sky Box would be an extraordinary and thrilling experience for the kids. For those who are afraid of heights, the observation deck of the tower will still give you and your family a bird’s eye view of the KL cityscape. The entry fee to the Sky Deck us RM75 for MyKad holder and RM105 for non-Malaysians. There is no extra charge for the Sky Box.
KL Forest Eco Park
Another place to visit near the hotel would be the KL Forest Eco Park (Taman Eko Rimba KL). KL is the only city in the world that has a natural rainforest situated right at its centre. The forest is at the base of the Menara Tower, so you can include a visit to the forest after you have finished your itinerary at the Tower. The forest is carefully protected so that visitors can get the most authentic and natural experience while trekking the eco park. The entry to the park is free and it is open daily from 7am to 6pm including weekends and public holidays.
MUD, The Musical
Apart from sightseeing and having fun, you can also make the trip educational for your kids by taking them to see MUD, The Musical. The Musical is part of the Malaysian Tourism initiative and it is a good platform for you and your family to understand the history and story of Kuala Lumpur. Held at the Panggung Bandaraya, KL’s City Hall, Mud, The Musical tells the story of survival and not giving up in the face of adversity. It seeks to reaffirm what the people of KL know about friendship and the importance of unity. While having fun and bonding with your kids during the trip, your kids can also have an understanding of foreign culture and have a meaningful experience with this musical.
The musical is held daily at 3pm and 8:30pm and it’s 60 minutes long.
