Week 3 of the Singapore HeritageFest 2016 is here! These family-friend events not only entertain, but take you and your kids on an educational journey with its range of tours, exhibitions and the largest archaeological excavation in Singapore.

Eurasian Heritage Bus Tour

For the very first time, the Eurasian Association organises the Eurasian Heritage Bus Tour that feature three distinctively Eurasian locations around Singapore.

  1. The Eurasian Experience Tour @ Eurasian Heritage Centre
    An introduction to Eurasian history and lifestyle.
  2. Saint Joseph’s Church
    Learn about religious festivals and appreciate traditional Catholic architecture.
  3. Popo & Nana’s Delight @ Maxwell Food Centre
    Get a taste of Eurasian and Peranakan food.

The Dig: 100 Days of the Empress Place Rescue Archaeology Excavation
The largest archaeological excavation in Singapore uncovered 3.5 tonnes of artefacts from the area next to the Asian civilisations Museum. The exhibition of 30 photographs captured over 100 days of excavation and commentaries from the photographer and archaeologists takes you back to the historic event. Images and commentaries portray the quest to save the unknown and forgotten past.

2016’s edition of Art Day Out! – a Gillman Barracks open house day event returns in May. Highlights include a series of indoor film screenings that are centred on the precinct’s history, as an army barracks, and the festival’s theme, “Old Stories, New Memories”.  Film screens take place Gillman Barracks’ former cinema space run by the Army Kinema Corporation.

Kampong Spirit, Kampong Fun
Relive kampong memories or let your little ones experience the olden days of village life in this interactive exhibition. You can even let the kids try playing traditional games such as five stones, congkak, hopscotch and capteh – all time favourites back in the day!

WE: Defining Stories
An exhibition of photographs from the archives of The Straits Times and the National Museum of Singapore Collection. This visual exhibition of headline photographs takes you and your child through the significant moments of our nation’s history.

Trading Stories
An exhibiton featuring old trades in Singapore, and how tradesmen have coped with the challenges of changing times. The lives of six individuals who each made their living as a traditional goldsmith, movie poster painter, tukang urut (Malay confinement lady), Samsui woman, poultry farmer and a letter writer; the exhibition sheds light on some of Singapore’s old trades through their personal stories.
