6 Easy Baby Food Recipes For Your Growing Baby

Breast milk is chock full of nutrients for a young baby, but when the precious tots reach six months old, it’s time to set Junior on the path of healthy eating by introducing her to solid foods. While pre-made baby food is convenient, it can’t beat homemade baby food for its vitamins and nutrients. You don’t even need to be a seasoned cook to whip up healthy and delicious baby food. Check out these six essential recipes you should make for your growing baby.


Creamy Avocado Puree (6 months)
The nutrient-dense Avocado contains several good-for-baby nutrients, from folate and iron to vitamin E and healthy fats! It’s also super easy to whip up as it doesn’t require cooking!

What you’ll need:
1 Organic Avocado
Breastmilk or formula to mix

Mash avocado with a fork or blend in a food processor. At this age, babies are still learning to eat, so mix with breastmilk or formula till your blend has a thin consistency that’s easy to swallow.


Sweet Banana Mash (6 months)
Easy to prep, bananas are a weaning staple that provides potassium and fibre for growing babies. They are also very gentle on the stomach, making it one of the best first foods for babies.

What you’ll need:
1 Small organic banana
Breastmilk or formula to mix

Peel the banana and mash it with a fork, add milk to thin it down and add that familiar taste for your baby.


Beets and Blueberry Surprise (7 – 9 months)
Beets and blueberries make for a nutritious combination of antioxidants, vitamins, and fibre. Try mixing it into a little cereal to make a delicious breakfast.

What you’ll need:
1 Medium organic beetroot
½ Cup of fresh blueberries

Rinse beets well and peel. Chop into one-inch cubes and place into a medium saucepan along with the blueberries. Add just enough water to cover the beets and cook on a medium-high heat for 10-15 minutes until are tender. Blend cooked beets and blueberries in a food processor or a blender and blend until smooth.


Pumpkin and Carrot Mash (7 – 9 months)

Full of beta-carotene, potassium, and iron pumpkin and carrots make a deliciously sweet combination that’s also healthy for growing little ones.

What you’ll need:

1 Kabocha pumpkin wedge
1 Carrot
1/2 cup of breast milk or chicken stock

Scoop out the seeds and strings of the pumpkin and roughly chop into small pieces. Peel your carrots and do the same. Place on a baking sheet and roast in the oven for 45-60 minutes till fork-tender. Once cooled, peel away the pumpkin skin. Blend in a food processor or blender with breast milk or chicken stock till desired consistency.

Baby Beef Stew (10 months and up)

Full of iron, this baby-friendly beef stew is great for babies’ first foray into meat. It requires more prep time than the rest but your baby is guaranteed to love it!

What you’ll need:
250g of chuck beef cut into ½ inch cubes
¼ Small onion
1 Carrot
1 Medium potato
Olive Oil
1 Cup Water

Heat 2 teaspoons of olive oil in a pot. Add the beef cubes and sear for two to three minutes. Peel onions, carrots and potatoes and chop into small chunks.  Add them in with the beef and let it cook for a few minutes before adding water. Bring to a boil before reducing to low heat. Cover your pot and let simmer for an hour. Blend in food processor or blender till the texture is smooth.


Cherry Yogurt (10 months and up)

Cherry and yoghurt come together to make a fabulous dessert that’s pack full of antioxidants and probiotics.

What you’ll need:

1 Cup of frozen organic cherries
½ Cup of organic goat milk yoghurt

Cook cherries in a small saucepan over medium heat for 10 minutes. Place in a blender till you get a smooth puree. Pour cherry puree into a bowl. Add yoghurt in and mix well.
